IDEST Aims & Objectives

IDEST is an independent organisation that has been set up with the following aims and objectives and is a division of The Scuba Industries Trade Association:

  1. To establish acceptable standards for the servicing and testing of sport diving equipment.

  2. To encourage companies to work to the standards produced by the Association of Scuba Servicing Engineers and Technicians (ASSET CP2) and to invite those working to these standards to seek "Approval"

  3. To maintain a Register of Approved Stations and make this readily available to all divers.

  4. To carry out regular inspections of all Approved Centres - to ensure continuing standards.

  5. To provide expert help and advice to those on the register or to those seeking to get on it.

  6. IDEST inspections are carried out to ASSET Code of Practice 2 (ASSET CP2) in accordance with EN 1802, EN 1968 and BS 5430 Part 6.

  7. The IDEST Inspection and Approval Scheme is fully operational and 58 Test Houses, are currently approved and are on the Register.

  8. A regular Newsletter is sent to all on the IDEST mailing list.

  9. IDEST has the full approval of SITA, BSAC, PADI, SAA, SSI and SUT and the Health and Safety Executive has acknowledged its aims and objectives. It is likely that in the future IDEST will turn its attention to the inspection of stations testing other items of diving equipment.
